A certified MBSR teacher and licensed psychologist in NY (#012842-1) and NJ (#4309), Judy’s passion as an MBSR instructor emerges from her experience of mindfulness practices as a balanced and true method for alleviating suffering and for cultivating health, happiness, and compassion. Judy feels joy and awe teaching as she witnesses ways in which participants are touched and transformed by the course. In particular she is struck by the power of mindfulness practices to promote practitioners’ increased confidence in their own capacity to attune to their emotional and physical well being, and to care for themselves with kindness and wisdom.

Judy has been studying and practicing meditation as well as ways in which psychotherapy and meditation intersect and diverge since 2000. Her understanding of mind body integration is further deepened by more than 30 years studying and practicing yoga. In 2006 Judy began training as an MBSR instructor through the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School. Since then she has been teaching the traditional 8-week MBSR course in NJ and NY. Additionally she integrates mindfulness practices into her clinical work as a psychologist treating children, adolescents, and adults.

Since 2007 Judy has been studying the practice of Insight Dialogue with Dr. Gregory Kramer and senior teachers at Metta Programs. Interpersonal Mindfulness (IM), a program jointly created by Metta Programs and the UMass Center for Mindfulness, is a course that supports participants' development of presence and equanimity while interacting with others, aware of and receptive to internal and relational experiences moment by moment. Judy has been trained to facilitate IM and has co-taught the course with Elaine Retholz in NYC.
